Leadership Shelby County to host golf tournament

By MACKENZEE SIMMS | Staff Writer

Benefitting students in Shelby County, the 2024 Leadership Shelby County Golf Tournament is set to tee off on Monday, April 15 at Timberline Golf Club. In addition to the tournament, Leadership Shelby County is also hosting a silent auction April 8-14.

Groups of golfers will tee off at different holes starting at 12:30 p.m. The tournament will be a four man scramble with four players on each team. The best score between the four players per hole will contribute to the group’s score, rather than scoring as individuals. Prizes will be available for holes-in-one on all par three holes with longest drive prizes available in three categories—Ages 59 and under, ages over 60 and women.

Courtesy of Alabaster’s Full Moon BBQ, boxed lunch will be available for guests starting at 11:30 a.m.

According to a statement from Leadership Shelby County, the golf tournament serves as a fundraising event for the organization’s youth programming.

“Come enjoy an entertaining day of golf, food, prizes and fun while helping benefit students in Shelby County,” the statement read. “Funds raised during the tournament will be used to assist the Youth Leadership Shelby County Program and provide the opportunity for college scholarships to youth program graduates from each participating high school.”

In addition to the tournament, Leadership Shelby County is also hosting a virtual silent auction from April 8-14.

“By donating you are helping us support high school students across Shelby County,” Leadership Shelby County’s Executive Director Kendall Williams said. “With your support, we can continue to encourage young people to be socially, conscientious leaders of the future by providing them with the experience, vision and opportunity to lead.“

Leadership Shelby County is a non-profit organization that hosts programs for different age groups. According to the Leadership Shelby County website, the programs are designed to develop leadership skills and allow participants to grow as a community.

“Our programs offer our participants an introduction to our community’s challenges and possibilities,” read a post on the organization’s website. “Additionally, we emphasize learning through experience that provides in-depth knowledge, tools and a network to better serve the community.”
