The North Shelby Library has teamed up with The UPS Store to introduce teens to 3D printing today at 11 a.m.

Approximately 18 to 20 sixth through 12th graders will attend a workshop where they will learn about 3D printing, see the printer in action and actually finalize a project they programmed. These teens have already designed their 3D object, and today, they will see the results of their designs and how it all works.

“We are excited to partner with the North Shelby Library to introduce this exciting and new technology to the teens in our area. It’s great to see their interest and enthusiasm,” says Tre Morton, owner of The UPS Store.

With 3D printing, people can develop unique, end-use products that typically are cost prohibitive through traditional manufacturing. It’s most frequently used for prototyping. A small, simple object may take two to three hours, while a large, complex object may take 24 hours or more.

The event will be at the UPS Store at 5184 Caldwell Road in Hoover.
