Big Bad Breakfast to open Pelham location at Canopy

PELHAM – Big Bad Breakfast will soon be opening a Pelham location as the newest business to join the Canopy at Oak Mountain in the spring of 2025.

Developed by award-winning chef John Currence, Big Bad Breakfast boasts a classic southern breakfast menu and serves biscuits, omelets and grits at almost 20 locations around the South.

As a part of the Canopy at Oak Mountain, Big Bad Breakfast will be situated next to the Taco Mac, across the street from the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena and the Oak Mountain Amphitheater.

Developed by local developers GenRev Properties and WeldenField, the Canopy currently features Taco Mac, Cahaba Cycles, Mountain High Outfitters and an apartment complex.

“We’re excited to welcome Big Bad Breakfast to the Canopy,” GenRev President John Benner. “Their dedication to great food and exceptional service fits perfectly with the Canopy’s goal of bringing new and vibrant restaurants and other businesses to the people of Pelham and North Shelby County.”

Partner John Michael Bodnar hopes that Big Bad Breakfast will further establish the Canopy as a shopping and dining destination in Pelham.

“We’ve had great success with our Taco Mac location at the Canopy, and we’re excited to expand our presence there with Big Bad Breakfast,” Bodnar said. “Pelham is a growing, busy community full of opportunity, and I believe the folks there will embrace a real southern breakfast place. We look forward to introducing the city to the Big Bad Breakfast experience soon.”

According to Pelham City Manager Gretchen DiFante, the addition of Big Bad Breakfast to the Canopy at Oak Mountain furthers Pelham’s vision of the entertainment district.

“The vision for Pelham’s entertainment district was outlined in our comprehensive plan in 2019, and our elected officials and staff members have been working diligently with our outstanding partners to bring that vision to life,” DiFante said. “As we continue to revitalize underutilized spaces (like the formerly vacant Canopy area, get rid of blighted areas (like the former Travel Lodge) and revitalize structures (like the log cabin where Mountain High is located), we know this area will offer the vibrant entertainment space our residents have been asking for. We are grateful to John Michael Bodnar for his belief and continued investment in that vision for Pelham.”

Those interested in more information about the Canopy at Oak Mountain can visit Canopyoakmtn.com. Those interesting in Canopy retail space still available for lease can contact Stephanie Hill or Alyssa Waters with Southpace Properties for more information about leasing opportunities.
