The Pelham City Council passed a resolution Monday night to allow Mayor Bobby Hayes to hire an architect and construction company for the renovation of city hall.
Mayor Hayes said the city is just in the initial steps of the process by hiring Architect Mark Lindsay and Maxus Construction Company.
&8220;The building is about 30-years-old, and we saw the need to do a general renovation,&8221; Hayes said. &8220;Work will be done on all three levels.&8221;
Revenue Director Mike Morgan said a lot of space has been freed up in the building allowing the city to think of new plans for its use.
&8220;The police and fire over the years have occupied the basement but have recently moved out,&8221; Morgan said. &8220;So we felt it was the opportune time to bring the building up to current codes.&8221;
Morgan said the process would start in the basement and work its way up. The basement will be torn out and renovated including the plumbing and air conditioning.
When that floor is completed several departments will move in. The revenue, building and engineering departments will all eventually find their homes there.
&8220;We hope to get issues with plumbing and cooling and heating addressed,&8221; Morgan said. And finally have room to grow.&8221;
After those modifications are complete the process will move on to the main floor that will eventually house human resources and finally the third floor to house other necessary offices.
