John Alpha Lowe

John Alpha Lowe, 93, of Vincent, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at a Veterans’ Care Facility.
The funeral service was held Saturday, April 7 at 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. He was buried at Macedonia Cemetery.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Lowe, was born on Sept. 5, 1913, to John Marion and Nuna Eva Lowe of Vincent and was the sixth of 11 children.
He married the former Evelyn Davis on May 24, 1942.
The marriage was blessed with one son, Joseph Wayne Lowe and two grandchildren, Jennifer Rae Berry and Timothy Wayne Lowe.
A public servant, Alpha was elected to the Shelby County Board of Education where he served 10 years.
He was also Mayor for the Town of Vincent for more than 10 years and a member of the Shelby County Commission for eight years. A charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, he served as chairman of the building committee during each phase of the building program of this great church. He loved our Lord and was dedicated to the church and its members.
He was also a deacon of Calvary Baptist.
He was a firefighter by profession.
He was employed at the Alabama Ordinance Works for 32 years until retirement.
Mr. Lowe served the Town of Vincent as its voluntary Fire Chief for 19 years.
He also served in the United States Air Force in World War II.
He is survived by his son, Joseph Wayne (Leah Anne) Lowe; grandchildren, Jennifer Lowe (James) Berry, Timothy Wayne (Christie) Lowe; great-grandchildren, Ian Tyler Rettig, Alex Ryan Rettig, Margaret Evelyn Lowe; sister, Lucille Lowe Baker and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
