Board of Education approves revised Internet safety policy

In a brief meeting May 4, the Shelby County Board of Education approved a revised Internet safety policy to reflect a revised policy for students’ use of technology.
The only change made to the Internet safety policy was the removal of language asking for parents to sign a release form.
Because of the revised policy for students’ use of technology, approved at the April 15 Board of Education meeting, parents only need to sign a release form for the system’s code of conduct, rather than separate forms for the use of technology policy and the code of conduct.
In other business:
— The board awarded Gulf States Roofing of Cullman a bid of $232,290 to partially re-roof Calera Elementary School and Montevallo Middle School.
— Superintendent Randy Fuller recognized Lt. Col. Larry Moore, a JROTC instructor at Vincent Middle/High School, for his 17 years of service to Shelby County schools. Moore is retiring from his position at the end of this semester.
