The Board of Governors of Indian Springs School unanimously chose Lee Pierson, out of three finalists, to serve as the school&8217;s interim director. Pierson will fill the head position&8212;vacated by current Director Mel MacKay at the end of this month&8212;while the school looks for a permanent replacement.
&8220;He was the most experienced of the group, and we were looking for someone that had experience doing this very thing,&8221; said G. Gray Plosser Jr., chairman of the Board of Governors.
This will be Pierson&8217;s third time acting as interim head for an independent school. He most recently served as the interim headmaster of the Collegiate School in New York City, the nation&8217;s oldest independent school.
His wife, Andr/e Pierson, spoke on his behalf. &8220;He&8217;s looking forward to coming to Alabama and helping out the school as an interim director,&8221; she said.
Wickenden Associates will lead the school in its search for a new director. A letter from the search committee said its members plan to have a list of interested candidates by mid-August. From there, they will select six to eight semifinalists to interview in September and then two to three finalists to visit the campus and meet with key members of the ISS community.
McKay announced his resignation in mid-March, saying he would be taking over as head of John Bapst School in Bangor, Maine
