Warriors finish third at Early Bird Invitational

The Thompson High School boys’ cross country team finished third in the University of Montevallo Early Bird Invitational meet Sept. 3.

The Warriors finished behind Hoover, which won the boys’ 5K race, and Auburn in the team standings.

Michael Johnson led Thompson in individual standings after finishing seventh overall with his time of 18:01.75. The field included 219 individual runners.

The Warriors’ Jordan Smith finished 15th in individual standings with his time of 18:41.95. Drew Nix of Thompson finished 47th in individual standings with his time of 20:31.35.

Briarwood Christian School came in fourth in the boys’ team standings.

The Lions’ Sam Whorton finished 27th overall in individual standings with his time of 19:20.21. Trey Long of Briarwood Christian finished 30th overall with his time of 19:32.74.

Pelham finished sixth in the boys’ team standings.

The Panthers’ Mason Webber came in 13th overall in individual standings with his time of 18:29.76. Andrew Givan of Pelham finished 33rd overall with his time of 19:41.96.

The Westminster School at Oak Mountain came in eighth in the boys’ team standings.

The Knights’ Adam Dunkerley led his squad as he finished 18th overall in individual standings with his time of 19:02.30. Noah Thompson of Westminster finished 40th overall with his time of 19:59.31.

Briarwood Christian School led Shelby County teams in the girls’ 5K race team standings. The Lions came in fourth in team standings behind team champion Hoover, Auburn and Homewood.

Becky Thielman led Briarwood Christian in individual standings after finishing 10th overall with her time of 22:15.00. The Lions’ Evan Riddlesperger finished 34th in individual standings with her time of 24:12.40.

Anne Kelly Patrick of Briarwood Christian finished 38th in individual standings with her time of 24:26.50. Teammate Taylor Smith came in one spot behind Patrick in 39th place overall with her time of 24:31.60.

Pelham came in fifth in the girls’ team standings.

Erin Landa led the Panthers as she finished 23rd overall in individual standings with her time of 23:09.00. Samantha Hassen of Pelham came in 32nd overall with her time of 24:02.00.

Thompson finished seventh in the girls’ team standings.

The Warriors’ Anna Puckett finished 19th overall in individual standings with her time of 22:57.70. Erika Kulp of Thompson finished 22nd overall with her time of 23:05.50.
