Mary Gene’s Hamburger-Macaroni Casserole

Mary Gene Denney lives in Columbiana and said her macaroni casserole was part of a book of her quick and easy recipes that she gave to her son before he went off to college.
1 lb. hamburger
1 medium onion
1 bell pepper
1 small package elbow macaroni
1 can tomato soup
1 small can mushrooms (if desired)
1/2 cup cheddar cheese
salt to taste
Brown hamburger, onions and bell pepper. Drain well. Mix all ingredients together and then mix with cooked macaroni. Place in a casserole dish placing alternate layers of cheese and macaroni mix. Top with remaining cheese
