A father and son combination won the Lay Lake Open, sponsored by Mark’s Outdoor Sports in Vestavia Hills, for the second year in a row May 15 as Shane And Steve Mitchell of Leeds took home the title.
The Mitchells caught 19.58 pounds of bass on Shelby County’s Lay Lake to capture the 2010 championship.
The top finishing professional angler in the event was Todd Faircloth of Jasper, Texas, who teamed up with Johnny Rouse of Birmingham to finish third with 17.84 pounds of bass.
Josh and Jerry Stracner of Vandiver claimed the title in 2009 with a catch of 20.77 pounds.
The Open featured a 500-boat field and $1,000 prizes to the top-10 finishers. Professional anglers also threw out rods, reels and bait to fans at the launch site.
