Casey Dent a junior on the University of Alabama at Birmingham volleyball team has been named this week’s UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Dent was a Conference USA All-Academic Team selection last season and ranks third all-time at UAB in career hitting percentage.

Dent and the Blazers went 1-1 last week. The Helena native and former Pelham High School standout hit .423 with 13 kills in the Blazers’ win against UTEP on Sunday.

Dent was also named to the Bama Bash and University of Memphis Invite All-Tournament teams earlier this season.

Dent’s success has stemmed far beyond the volleyball court at UAB as she was a 2006 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Third Team selection and was awarded a C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal in addition to being named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

She is a pre-business major at UAB
