Montevallo went on a 13-0 run in the third quarter Thursday as head coach Tena Niven’s Bulldogs pulled away from the Dallas County Hornets to take the Dallas County Shootout tournament victory, 66-45.

The Hornets pulled to within three points, with just under three minutes remaining in the first half, but the Dawgs went on a 10-2 run that all but put the game away.

Alisha Gentry was the leading scorer for the Dawgs with a game-high 19 points, while Desirae Jones chipped in 12 points.

For Dallas County, Radnesha Vinson was the leading scorer for the Hornets with nine points.

Prior to the match-up with Dallas County, the Bulldogs dominated Marbury, 61-18.

Jones led the Dawgs with 13 points, while Sequoia Peeples had 10 points.

Kim Marshall was the leading scorer for Marbury with 11 points.

In other action:

-Thompson trounces Erwin: Rhonda Watts scored 27 points Thursday, including s 15-of-16 effort from the free-throw line, as the Thompson Warriors downed the Erwin Eagles in the Bruno’s Big Orange Classic at Hoover High School, 62-34.

Lauren Sprouse also had nine points in the win for the Warriors.

For Erwin, two players scored in double-digits as Erin Hogue scored 14 points and Khristian Lee scored 13.

Lanier holds off Panthers: The Jess Lanier Tigers downed the Pelham Panthers Thursday for the third time this season, 54-47.

Lanier previously beat the Panthers 69-56 and 74-54.

The Panthers led early in the Bruno’s Big Orange Classic at Hoover, but Lanier went on a 19-0 run to close out the first quarter and Pelham never recovered.

Ally Slaughter led the Panthers with 16 points, while Melanie Short had 12 points.

LaQuitta Burroughs led Lanier with 15 points, while Jakayla Hill and Bonita Williams each had 12 points.

-Yellow Jackets sting Wildcats: Shelby County trailed by four at the half Dec. 17, but a hot-shooting fourth quarter by the McAdory Yellow Jackets helped seal the win over the Wildcats, 47-34.

Jessica Pennington led Shelby County with 13 points, while Keshaunra Blevins led McAdory with 14 points and five steals.-Hope soars over Evangel: Devin Douglas and Olivia Machen both scored in double-digits Dec. 17 as the Hope Christian Eagles put down the Evangel Lightning, 38-30.

The Lightning cut the Eagles’ five-point halftime lead to three at the end of the third, but a big final quarter by Douglas and Machen proved to be all Evangel would need.

Douglas finished the night with 15 points to lead the Eagles, while Machen finished with 12 points.

Hannah Letson led Evangel with 13 points
