Gubernatorial candidate Tim James and his “Common Sense Express” rolled into the Alabaster Colonial Promenade May 20, and James will make another stop May 21 at Gold’s Gym in Pelham.
James’ “Common Sense Express” bus blared “Sweet Home Alabama” as it rolled into the Jim ‘N Nicks parking lot at 6:45 p.m., and James spoke with residents about creating good jobs and building a better future for Alabama.
James, the son of former Alabama Gov. Fob James, has made national headlines with his “Common Sense” ads, in which he proposes giving the state driver’s license exams in English only.
“This is Alabama. We speak English,” James said in the commercial. “If you want to live here, learn it. We’re only giving that test in English if I’m governor. Maybe it’s the business man in me, but we’ll save money and it makes sense.”
James also ends each of his commercials with the phrase, “It makes sense to me … does it to you?”
James will speak with more Shelby County residents May 21 as he stops at Gold’s Gym in Pelham for a meet-and-greet breakfast from 7-8:30 a.m.
