The 2011 high school football season kicks off Thursday night, Aug. 18, when Thompson plays host to Wetumpka in a preseason jamboree at 6 p.m.

The action continues Friday night, Aug. 19, with eight preseason jamborees and four regular season games on the schedule.

Kingwood Christian opens its season with a home contest against Ellwood Christian. Coosa Valley Academy, the defending Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A champions, will travel to Springwood School in its season opener.

Evangel Christian will open its season on the road at North River Christian. Hope Christian will travel to Evangel Family Christian.

Eight teams will take the field in jamborees. Oak Mountain will host Bessemer City, Tuscaloosa County will travel to Pelham, Spain Park will travel to Austin, Briarwood Christian will face John Carroll and Calera will meet Shades Valley at Vestavia Hills, Chelsea will travel to Lincoln, Shelby County will host Bibb County and Montevallo will play host to Verbena. All games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Vincent will have an intrasquad scrimmage immediately following school on Friday afternoon.
