Pelham’s Sarah Sharman leapt half a foot more than her closest competitor Saturday at the King of the Mountain track and field meet hosted by Vestavia Hills High School.

Sharman was one of three track athletes from Shelby County to win individually at the meet, while team performances were not as high. She jumped five feet, four inches. Spain Park’s Melanie Harris was fourth with a height of four feet, eight inches.

Oak Mountain’s Julie McDonald edged Jess Lanier’s Fundaleithia Pruitt by three tenths of a second in the women’s 300 meter hurdles

Spain Park’s Jessica Carlisle won the discuss throw by more than 3.5 feet, tossing her disc 95-feet, six inches. Oak Mountain’s Danielle Bailey was fourth with a distance of 89-09.

There were also a number of second place finishes, including relay runs by Oak Mountain in the women and men 4×800-meter relay.

Oak Mountain finished 10th overall in the girls’ event, while the boys were sixth. Spain Park was 11th in the girls and fifth in boys’ events. Pelham finished seventh overall in the girls’ events and 13th in the boys’.

Oak Mountain’s Tyler Morehead beat Spain Park’s William Green for second place in boys’ high jump after both jumped 6 feet. Cordova’s Tyler Campbell was first.

Briarwood Christian and the Calera Eagles also competed in boys’ events, finishing 19th and 21st, respectively, as a team.

Mountain Brook girls won both the varsity and JV, while Vestavia Hills did the same for the boys
