UM women’s golf sets record in home tourney

CALERA – The University of Montevallo shot a school-record 306 in the second round, en route to a second place team finish at the Buffalo Wild Wings Invitational.

Montevallo hosted the tournament at Timberline Golf Club.

Morgan Bell was the top finished for the Lady Falcons with a two-round score of 155, good for third overall. Emily Gibson tied for fourth place at 158.

Birmingham Southern College won the team competition, posting a two-round score of 627. UM was next at 637, while the University of Mobile (651) finished third. BSC had the top two individual winners with Jordan Hardy earning medalist honors with a 147 (72-75) and Kelly Burgess was second (154).

Other UM scores included Britney Martin (165), Heather Mutton (165), Rachel Shaner (167) and CeCe Conner (186).

In the men’s tournament, UM finished third out of six teams with a score of 607, behind the University of West Georgia (584) and Birmingham-Soutern (601).

Nick Blakely of BSC earned medalist honors, recording a two-round score of 139 (72-67). T.J. Butts was the top finisher for UM’s second team, which finished fifth as a team, posting a two-round score of 149 (77-72). He was eighth overall.
