The Shirley-Holloway American Legion Post 131 baseball team, based in Columbiana, wrapped up its first season at the state tournament July 29-31 at Riddle-Pace Field on the campus of Troy University.

The Post 131 team opened the state tournament with a 14-10 loss to Dothan Post 12 on July 29. The team was eliminated following an  8-2 loss to Decatur Post 15 in its final game July 30.

Tyler Gamble of Thompson High School led the Post 131 team at the plate in the 14-10 loss to Dothan Post 12 as he finished 3-for-5 at the plate. Gamble drove in one run and scored two runs in the defeat.

Braten Dill, a former Shelby County High School standout, finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Jeremy Hyde of Calera High School went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and scored a run.

Austin Davis of Cornerstone Christian School took the loss on the mound after giving up five runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings in relief.

Aron McRee of Thompson pitched two innings and gave up two earned runs with a strikeout and two walks. Nick Foster of Pelham High School allowed four runs, including two earned runs, with two strikeouts and three walks in 2 2/3 innings. Logan Crook of Briarwood Christian School didn’t allow a hit as he closed out the game by pitching the final 2/3 of the ninth inning.

Michael Schofield of Thompson led Post 131 at the plate in its 8-2 loss to Decatur Post 15. Schofield finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored in the defeat.

Gamble went 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in a run. Fellow Warrior Matt Haskins finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

Dill took the loss on the mound after giving up five runs, including four earned runs, on nine hits with five strikeouts and a walk in 6 1/3 innings.

Crook gave up three earned runs on five hits with a strikeout and a walk in 1 2/3 innings.
