Funeral service for Alan Roper, age 50, of Alabaster, will be at 7 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2008, at Crosscreek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Kieve officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Fourmile Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Roper, who went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at his home, was born Feb. 28, 1958, in Tuscaloosa. He accepted Christ at an early age and lived his life as an example for others to follow.
He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend who touched others lives by his example, faith, strength and love.
Alan graduated from Fultondale High School and served as a member of their marching band. After attending UAB, he began working for AT& where he retired due to his health after 26 years.
He was a directing clerk working in their publishing department.
Mr. Roper was a longtime and faithful member of Crosscreek Baptist Church in Pelham where he served as deacon, director of Sunday school, member of the church missions committee and Baptist Identity Representative.
He was a member of the church choir but also participated in many singing ensembles and choirs throughout the Shelby and Jefferson County areas.
He is survived by his parents, Blenard and Violet Roper; sisters, Brenn (Douglas) Davis and Joy (Arthur) Willis of Alabaster; four nephews; two nieces; and a multitude of other relatives and friends.
At Alan’s request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Alan’s memory to Crosscreek Baptist Church’s missions fund or the American Cancer Society.
