CALERA – The Calera Police Department has released the name of a man who allegedly shot and killed another man last weekend.
Cory Xavier Merritte Stallworth, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $1 million bond at the Shelby County Jail.
Police allege Stallworth, a Calera resident, shot and killed Charlie Abdullah Shabazz at 3:15 p.m. on July 23 on the 100 block of Spring Street.
Shabazz, 27, also of Calera, was pronounced dead at the scene with gunshot wounds to the chest and head, according to police.
“The two acquaintances were sitting on the front porch together at Stallworth’s residence and got into an argument,” according to a release from the Calera Police Department. “Stallworth retrieved a rifle from the residence and shot Shabazz on the porch, then chased him into the street where he shot and killed Shabazz.”
Stallworth was taken into custody at the scene.
