The AHSAA All-Star Sports Week in Huntsville began Monday with a baseball double header at Joe Davis Stadium between the North and South.

Briarwood Christian pitcher/shortstop Ben Bracewell helped secure a win in the first game for the North, 6-4, after driving in the first run of the game and later picking up the save in the seventh inning.

In game two, the North allowed five runs in the second inning to give the South the lead, but rallied back to tie the game in the top of the sixth with a bases loaded double by Tuscaloosa County’s Brett Booth. The North took a 6-5 lead in the seventh, but Booth allowed two runs in the bottom of the inning as the South squeaked out the win.

Thompson’s Trent Lucas and Jordan Chism each pitched a scoreless inning in the second game.

Thompson head coach Pat Hamrick was one of the coaches for the North, coaching in his first all-star game since coaching at one in Montgomery seven years ago. Hamrick said Huntsville’s atmosphere helped make the week.

“The facilities in Huntsville were a lot better than Montgomery,” Hamrick said. “They were both good (experiences), but Huntsville was better.”
