The 2010 East-West baseball All-Star Classic, presented by the Birmingham Lions Club as a fundraiser for the Club’s Alabama Sight Conservation, will feature nine Shelby County high school baseball standouts June 4-5 at Samford University.

Shelby County players will be split among the Birmingham Metro and Central teams in the tournament, which will feature four all-star teams from across the state.

The Birmingham Metro squad will feature a combined six players from Spain Park, Briarwood Christian and Thompson. Rising senior pitcher/infielder Austin Veteto from Spain Park and rising senior catcher Harrison Foster of Briarwood Christian School will be participating on the Birmingham Metro squad.

Rising senior pitcher/outfielder Jonathan Keller, rising senior outfielder Matt Haskins, rising senior pitcher Jake Hester and rising pitcher/infielder Alex Henderson will join the Spain Park duo on the Birmingham Metro team. Keller has committed to play college baseball at the University of Alabama.

Pitcher/outfielder Braten Dill and pitcher/infielder Kevin McNorton, recent graduates of Shelby County High School, will play for the Central team. Both Dill and McNorton will play college baseball at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville next season.

Outfielder Trent Posey, a recent Calera graduate, will join the Shelby County tandem on the Central team. Posey will play college baseball at Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn., next season.

The Central team will face off against the North, an all-star team from north Alabama, Friday June 4 at 4 p.m. in the opening game of the East-West Classic. The Birmingham Metro squad will take on the South at 7 p.m.

The losing teams from the first day will meet in a consolation game June 5 at 2 p.m. The winning teams will meet in the championship game at 5 p.m.
