The Pareto principle, also known as the 80/20 rule, indicates that 80 percent of outcomes are the result of 20 percent of the causes. This key insight can be applied to various aspects of life, including the workplace where 20 percent of the employees produce 80 percent of the effort or product.

At each and every business, at the core, are hardworking employees striving to do their best while others just aren’t as dedicated. And after seeing the reaction to the retirement of Carlene Hadaway after 60 years of service, it’s safe to say she is definitely part of the 20 percent.

Not only did Hadaway dedicate six decades of service to Central State Bank—an uncommon feat these days—but she did so diligently. Even during her final day on the job, Hadaway remained locked in and dedicated to assisting customers and getting the job done despite the retirement festivities. Imagine what the world could get done if we were all as diligent as Hadaway.

With Hadaway gone, Central State Bank can continue its successful practice of delivering services to Shelby County but she will be missed by the community and the customers who were used to her genuine care and personable assistance.

Although they don’t often get recognized with the spotlight, we are grateful for the Hadaways of Shelby County who serve as the rock-solid foundation of the place we call home and continue to silently make each day possible. We wish Hadaway the absolute best with her retirement and are grateful for the impact she’s had on Calera and Shelby County as a whole.
