Hoover City Schools to shift to e-learning on Jan. 21

HOOVER – Hoover City Schools has announced that its schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 due to the threat of winter weather.
Students will engage in e-learning on Jan. 21 and teachers will provide students with information regarding their assignments.
“Hoover City Schools’ leadership team will continue to closely monitor the weather and communicate with the National Weather Service for Birmingham and the Shelby and Jefferson County Emergency Management Agencies,” read an official Facebook post by HCS.
The school system will notify parents and interested parties of any necessary future changes to the school schedule through ParentSquare, the Hoover City Schools website or on social media.
According to National Weather Birmingham, located in Calera, Jefferson and Shelby County are currently under a cold weather advisory from 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20 through 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. NWS expects wind chills of 5 to 15 degrees and temperatures of 10 to 20 degrees.
NWS recommends that individuals use caution while traveling outside and wear appropriate attire. To prevent freezing and possible bursts of pipes, it is suggested that individuals should wrap or drain pipes or allow them to drip.
