ALABASTER – The Thompson Warriors put their foot on the gas in the first quarter and never looked back to secure a commanding area win, their first of the season.
Thompson defeated the Prattville Lions 75-42 on Thursday, Jan. 9 at Warrior Arena to get to 1-1 in Class 7A, Area 5.
In a game that was originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10 in Prattville, the Warriors had big nights from multiple players as four of their eight players reached double figures, including Cam Pritchett, Riley Bryant, Landyn Smith and DaMonte Tabb.
Pritchett led the way with 24 points while Bryant and Smith each scored 16 points and Tabb finished with 14 points.
It was Pritchett who got the offense going early with 11 points in the first quarter. Tabb scored seven points during that time and Bryant started strong from the free throw line with a 3-for-4 stretch.
Those performances helped the Warriors outpace the Lions and take a 24-12 lead into the second quarter.
Thompson’s defense had an even more impressive showing in the second quarter, allowing just six more points from Prattville in the remaining minutes before halftime.
Bryant, Pritchett and Smith each made multiple baskets during the second to increase the lead to 43-18 going into the halftime break.
The Lions offense bounced back in the third quarter and scored 16 points, but the Warriors responded with a strong performance from deep. Bryant knocked down a trio of 3-pointers while Smith added his third deep shot of the night to get into double figures.
Tabb and Pritchett also had a pair of makes inside the arc during the third quarter as Thompson dropped 22 points in the third and took the lead to 65-34 going into the fourth quarter.
The Warriors cruised from there with commanding lead, but Smith and Jaden Love each hit a late 3-pointer each to put a stamp on the emphatic 33-point victory.
Thompson improved to 11-10 on the season to go with its 1-1 mark in area play. After their home game against Florence on Saturday, Jan. 11 was cancelled due to snow, the Warriors will now take a pair of trip to Tuscaloosa to face the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and the Hillcrest Patriots on Thursday, Jan. 16. Both games will start at 7 p.m.
