PELHAM – Pelham Parks and Recreation has announced several marquee events throughout the first half of 2025 to engage and entertain the Pelham residents they serve.

The second annual Indoor Community Yard Sale will take place on Saturday, March 1 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Pelham Rec Center gymnasium. The day after the yard sale is the Kites and Bites event, which will run from 3:30-6 p.m. An event titled “Paws in the Park” will take place on Sunday, April 13 from 2-5 p.m. Finally, Pelham Palooza will return to Pelham City Park on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The first event on the docket for Pelham Parks and Rec is the yard sale. For vendors wishing to participate in the event, an indoor booth space of 12 by 12 inches is $20, and outdoor booth space of 12 by 12 inches is $10. Sellers must provide their own tables and chairs at the event, and no commercial or business sales are allowed.

Alicia Walters, the assistant director of Pelham Parks & Recreation, gave background on why Pelham Parks & Rec chose to bring back the yard sale.

“Last year was our first year to offer this type of event and it was well received by our Pelham community,” Walters said. “We had to turn interested sellers away last year due to limited space. This year we have added booth space to our indoor option and added the option to purchase outdoor booth space. After the event last year, the sellers commented they would like to see this as an annual event. It was a great event for the sellers and for the shoppers alike.”

Walters added that the sale itself was so popular last year that buyers lined up in the early morning ready to shop, akin to the festivities of Black Friday.

“A huge benefit for having an indoor yard sale is the opportunity for the sellers to set up their booths on Friday evening,” Walters said. “Once all the booths are set up, our team takes pictures and shares on social media so folks will have an idea of what items are available for purchase… The doors will open at 8 a.m. and last year we did have a line ready to get shopping.”

Like the yard sale, Walters emphasized that the rest of the events Pelham Parks and Rec have on the calendar were meticulously planned.

“Our team starts planning months in advance for these events,” Walters said. “We secure the bands and activities vendors early in the year so we can be sure to have them be a part of our events. We are currently taking vendor applications for Paws in the Park, and we will be announcing vendor application registration for Pelham Palooza by the end of January or Feb. 1.”

All of the events are free for the public to attend. Kites and Bites is an event for people to bring kites and enjoy a spring day in the park. The event will have live music, face painting, a balloon artist and more. Food trucks will also be on site.

The Bama Air Dogs will perform at the Paws in the Park event. Shelby Humane will also offer discounted pet vaccinations and have dogs onsite that can be adopted. Vendors and food trucks will be on site for the event. The event will also have a Kids Zone with bounce houses, a face painter, hula hoops, games and a craft booth.

Pelham Palooza will have live music and vendors on site. The event will also have a Kids Zone with bounce houses, a face painter, a balloon artist, hula hoops, Knockerball, games and a youth sports parade. Food trucks will also be onsite for the event.

While all of these events have been extremely popular in the past, Walters believes that this year could have even more attendance than the previous years.

“We have seen an increase in attendance at all our events over the past few years,” Walters said. “We do anticipate an increase again this year.”

More information on each event will be released as the year progresses. For more information on Pelham Parks and Rec’s 2025 events, visit its website at Pelhamalabama.gov/902/Parks-Recreation.
