Alabaster City Schools to close on Friday

ALABASTER – Alabaster City Schools will be closed on Friday, Jan. 10 due to the oncoming threat of winter weather impacting Shelby County.
On Wednesday, Jan. 8, Alabaster City Schools announced on social media that the school system will be closed on Jan. 10, including all after-school and evening activities. Hoover City Schools, Pelham City Schools and Shelby County Schools have also announced closures for Jan. 10.
Shelby County is under a Winter storm Watch with an Elevated Risk of winter weather Thursday night and on Friday. The Elevated Impact Area indicates hazardous driving conditions and possible closures and disruptions to infrastructure.
According to the National Weather Service, the main impact for Shelby County is expected to come in the form of potential heavy snow that is mixed at times with sleet and freezing rain. Total snow and sleet accumulation is currently expected to be between 2 and 4 inches from late Thursday night through late Friday night.
