The Chelsea Fire and Rescue Department recently received a $1,000 grant from Allstate for the department’s new rescue truck program.

The money has been used to buy equipment for the transport unit, said Fire Chief Wayne Shirley.

“Certainly, we didn’t have the ability, within our budget, to get all the equipment we needed, so we were going to have to wait for the next fiscal year,” Shirley said. “Their grant allowed us not to have to wait and to go ahead and get the equipment we needed.”

Allstate agent Jim Anthony presented the $1,000 check to the fire department at the Aug. 19 City Council meeting.

“When the City of Chelsea Fire and Rescue team approached us about this opportunity, we thought it was important for Allstate to get involved and provide a donation to the rescue truck program,” he said. “We believe strongly in the importance of corporate community involvement.”

Fire Capt. Adam Reeves said the grant will help the department assist patients better.

“There are many reasons we have made the decision to begin this program, none being more important than improving the service we provide to anyone who needs our assistance,” Reeves said.
