ALABASTER – Alabaster City Schools has named its 2024-2025 Teachers of the Year with one educator selected from each of the district’s five schools.
“This is a super group of teachers that we get to recognize for their outstanding contributions to public education,” ACS Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers said. “We are proud of these teachers for all the ways in which they serve our students.”
The following teachers were named Teacher of the Year at their respective schools:
- Creek View Elementary School – GRC teacher Morgan Quisenberry
- Meadow View Elementary School – Third grade teacher Olivia Cushing
- Thompson Intermediate School – Fourth grade reading and English language arts teacher Christy O’Dell
- Thompson Middle School – Eighth grade math teacher Kim Miranda
- Thompson High School – Math and dual enrollment teacher Avery Horton
Each year, ACS Teachers of the Year are formally recognized during an ACS Board of Education meeting. During the upcoming meeting, which is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 13, an Elementary Teacher of the Year and a Secondary Teacher of the Year will be selected from the five teachers recognized.
Once selected, Alabaster City Schools’ Elementary Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year will go on to compete at the state level in running for Alabama Teacher of the Year. The awards ceremony for Alabama Teacher of the Year will take place in May 2025 and the program is administered by the Alabama State Department of Education.
“Congratulations to our 2024-2025 school year Teachers of the Year,” read an official Facebook post by Alabaster City Schools. “(They are) an incredible group of educators.”
