Oliver Pickens Head, of Columbiana, Alabama, born August 24, 1930, passed away November 26, 2024. He was 94 years of age.

Visitation and funeral were held at Columbiana United Methodist Church on Friday, November 29, 2024.

Oliver is proceeded in death by his parents, Frank and Loretta Head.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ann Birmingham Head, his five children, Frank (Suzanne), Andy (Sherry), Dan, Jason (Paula), and Marjorie Thomas (Dave). Grandchildren include Matthew (Kara), Cale Thompson (Erica), Jacqueline, Cage (Erin), Marjorie (Griffen), Anna George (Aaron), Sarah Elizabeth Head, Libba Henderson, and Allison, Trey, and Skylar Thomas. Great grandchildren include Elizabeth and Drew Head, Zoe and Lincoln Thompson, and Cordelia Head.

Oliver grew up in Columbiana and graduated from Shelby County High School. He went to the University of Alabama for both his undergraduate and law degrees. While in law school, he took a leave of absence during the Korean War to serve in the US Army.

Oliver started his law career in Tuskegee, Alabama, and then he and Ann moved back to his hometown of Columbiana, where he practiced law for 45 years, the last number of years with Wallace, Ellis, Head & Fowler. He served as a Bar Commissioner, and as Vice President, of the Alabama State Bar. Thereafter, he served for almost a dozen years as a Circuit Court Judge of Shelby County. His book, ‘Some Tellable Tales of the Shelby County Bar and Other Stories”’, was written by him of his memories in the judicial system, and of living in Columbiana.

He was an active member of the Columbiana United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the South Shelby Masonic Lodge 140, The Scottish Rite, The York Rite, and a Shriner.

In retirement years, he and Ann traveled the world. He always looked forward to the next adventure. Oliver loved nothing more than being with his family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Columbiana United Methodist Church, the Shriners Hospital, or Embrace Alabama Kids, a Methodist ministry for children and families.
