Hoover City Schools receives A on state report card

HOOVER – The Alabama State Department of Education has released the state report card, giving Hoover City Schools an A ranking with a score of 95. This represents a two point increase from last year’s score of 93.
To calculate overall scores, the state judged schools in four categories:academic achievement, academic growth, progress in english language proficiency and chronic absenteeism. High schools are judged in two additional categories—college and career readiness and graduation rate.
College and career readiness is the number of students in a four-year academic setting who met at least one of the CCR indicators. Graduation rate is based on the amount of students enrolled who graduated within four years of entering the ninth grade.
In the academic indicator categories, HCS scored a 90.85 for academic achievement, a 100 for academic growth, a 61.68 for progress in english language proficiency and a 94.76 for Graduation Rate. In the student success categories, HCS scored a 7.95 in chronic absenteeism and a 90.78 in college and career readiness.
Greystone Elementary School led Shelby County’s HCS with an overall grade of 99 and the letter grade A. GES earned a 100 in both the academic achievement and academic growth categories. GES scored a 5.13 in the chronic absenteeism category.
Berry Middle School earned an A letter grade with a score of 95. BMS scored a 91.34 in academic achievement and a 100 in academic growth. They earned a 66.13 in progress in english language proficiency and a 7.8 in chronic absenteeism.
Spain Park High School earned a 92 with the letter grade A. SPHS earned a 100 in academic growth, 75.48 in academic achievement, 94.93 for graduation rate, 12.69 in chronic absenteeism and a 92 in college and career readiness.
