MONTGOMERY – The Thompson Warriors embarked on a weekend trip to the Capital City and walked away with a victory as they beat the JAG Jaguars 67-53 on Saturday, Nov. 16.
After losing 64-60 earlier in the week to the Mountain Brook Spartans on Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Warriors entered the clash looking for a bounce-back victory and got just that.
Thompson balanced out its scoring in the opening quarter as Carson McKenney scored four points to lead five different first-quarter scorers.
After scoring 13 points in the first quarter of play, the Warriors repeated that feat in the second quarter.
Landyn Smith added five points to his two from the first quarter while Ethan Hudson knocked down a pair of field goals, giving Thompson 26 points at the halftime break.
From there, the Warriors turned on the jets in the third quarter, scoring 22 points during the eight-minute stretch.
Smith and Jason Parks each hit a 3-pointer as the team continued to find multiple different scorers. As a group, Thompson went 8-for-10 from the free throw line in the third quarter.
Led by scoring efforts from Parks, Hudson and Aaron Glover, the Warriors offense continued to roll and had 48 points at the end of the third.
Daeshaun Morrissette took over in the final quarter, adding to his six points from earlier in the game with nine in the fourth, including a 4-for-4 run at the free throw line.
He led five other Thompson scorers in the fourth to seal the 14-point victory and get to 2-1 on the season.
Smith led the team with 22 points. Two other Warriors had double-figure days as well as both Morrissette and Hudson each had 15 points in the win. Glover scored nine points, McKenney and Parks earned eight points apiece and Jaden Love scored six points.
Thompson then lost a 62-49 road contest to Huffman on Monday, Nov. 18. The Warriors will round out its four-game road stretch with a Thursday, Nov. 21 trip to the Helena Huskies at 7 p.m.
They will then follow that up with their annual Discover Shelby Thompson Thanksgiving Tournament from Nov. 23-26 at Warrior Arena. Their first game in that will be on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. against the Chelsea Hornets.
