Chelsea City Council awards funds to Chelsea High School, middle school

CHELSEA – The Chelsea City Council approved the awarding of grant funds to Chelsea Middle School and Chelsea High School during a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
The Classroom Instructional Support Grant program, formerly known as Nick Grants, are made possible through the city’s 1 percent sales tax that was implemented in October 2019. The program aims to assist Chelsea schools by providing instructional supplies needed that are not funded by the Shelby County Schools Board of Education. Grant applications for the program are accepted twice a year for review.
During the meeting, the Council approved a resolution to award $17,395 in funds to Chelsea Middle School. ChMS requested help paying for Molten L2 volleyballs in the amount of $1,400 and for funds in the amount of $17,395 for graphics around the school.
The Chelsea City Council also approved a resolution awarding $45,734.31 in funds to Chelsea High School.
Chelsea High School requested funding for the following items:
- Wrestling mats, wall pads and more
- Bleachers and concrete needed for soccer
- Flags, poles, floors, props
- Open air cooler
In other news, the Chelsea City Council approved the following during the meeting:
- A resolution to accept responsibility for streets in the Windstone subdivision
- An ordinance to approve an annexation request submitted by Heritage Oaks Investments, LLC for property located off Chelsea Road consisting of plus or minus 7 acres
- An ordinance to approve an annexation request submitted by Robert McLeroy for a portion of property located off Weaver Creek Road consisting of plus or minus 7.04 acres
- An ordinance to approve a second annexation request submitted by Robert McLeroy for a portion of property located off Weaver Creek Road consisting of plus or minus 7.04 acres
The next regularly scheduled Chelsea City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. with a pre-council meeting at 5 p.m. The public is welcome to attend both meetings.
