MONTEVALLO – After a disappointing 0-2 start to the season, the Montevallo Bulldogs are in the win column for the first time in the young year as they defeated the LAMP Golden Tigers in a tight battle.

Montevallo claimed the 34-31 win over LAMP on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Montevallo High School for its first win of the season.

In a low-scoring game throughout, the Golden Tigers got the upper hand with 15 points in the first quarter.

Meagan Gentry helped the Bulldogs keep pace by scoring a pair of 3-pointers, making the score 15-8 LAMP at the end of one quarter of play.

However, Montevallo flipped that momentum on its head with a strong second quarter.

Five different Bulldogs found the scoresheet in the second, including four points from A’Mya Hudson, in a 12-point effort on offense for the team.

Montevallo also locked in on defense and allowed just four points in the second quarter. That helped the Bulldogs take a 20-19 lead going into halftime.

Montevallo’s momentum carried into the third quarter as it outscored the Golden Tigers 10-3, led by two more 3-pointers from Gentry as the defense allowed just one basket from the field.

The Bulldogs took a 30-22 lead into the fourth quarter, but they weren’t out of the woods yet.

LAMP’s defense held Montevallo to just four points in the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to five on the other end of the floor.

However, it wouldn’t be enough as the Bulldogs held on for the three-point win down the stretch.

Gentry led Montevallo with 12 points, all of which came off 3-pointers. Makiyah Cathy scored six points and Zabdy Perez, Hudson, Alexis Morgan and Alescia Hall each had four points for the Bulldogs.

Montevallo will have a tough road test for its next outing as the Bulldogs head to Pelham to battle the Panthers on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.
