COLUMBIANA – Josh Sisk won election to the Shelby County Commission’s District 6 seat on Tuesday, Nov. 5 with a majority of the vote.

With 76.92 percent of boxes reported as of 10:25 p.m. on Nov. 5, the Republican nominee Sisk led with a tally of 8,760 votes (69.16 percent) over Democratic nominee Anondo Banerjee’s total of 3,891 votes (30.72 percent).

The seat is currently held by Jeff Brumlow, but the seat was affected when the district lines were redrawn prior to the election. According to Resolution 23-2-27-04, District 6 now encompasses a northern stretch of the county between the northern county line and Valleydale Road.

This is the first time that Sisk has been elected to the Shelby County Commission, and he said that he has spent time in the build-up to the election learning about the Commission and all that it does.

He also expressed excitement at getting to work for a county that he holds in high regard.

“It feels great,” Sisk said of being elected. “This has been a journey for the better part of a year in learning about the inner workings of the Shelby County Commission, and the more I learned, the more excited I got at the possibility of having the opportunity to serve. We live in the best county in the state. We have the lowest unemployment. We have the highest income. We have beautiful parks. We have wonderful schools. We have outstanding law enforcement, and I’m just excited to have this part of the process over and ready to get to work.”

Sisk has worked with State Farm for 24 years and currently serves as a billing supervisor. He lives in Hoover with his wife Megan, son Wilson and daughter Millie, and both of his children attend Spain Park High School.

He is currently in his second year as the president of the Spain Park Gridiron Club, which serves as the booster club for the school’s football program, and also serves as the public address announcer for SPHS lacrosse.

In his spare time, he cohosts The Pennant Grace podcast with Emily Grace McWhorter, which covers the Atlanta Braves for Disrupt Media.

He acknowledged that as a first-time commissioner, he will have plenty to learn on the job. He hopes to lean on his fellow commissioners during the onboarding process as he gains experience in his new position.

“My primary focus at first will absolutely be to learn, and the good thing for me is there’s eight other commissioners there in place that I’ll get to learn from,” Sisk said. “I’ll be able to learn from each one of those people, and I’m very thankful for them, and they will be great examples for me in learning on the job as we go to serve the people of Shelby County.”

He thanked everyone who voted for him and supported him along the journey to becoming county commissioner.

“Just want to thank everyone in District 6 for your support,” Sisk said. “It’s been very humbling, and I’m extremely appreciative of my neighbors for all that they’ve done for me.”
