NORTH SHELBY – The Vincent Yellow Jackets are moving on to super regionals after securing second place in Class 2A, Area 9.

Vincent swept the Cornerstone Schools of Alabama Eagles 3-0 in the area tournament semifinals on Friday, Oct. 18 at Westminster School at Oak Mountain.

While the Jackets fell in the finals to the host Westminster OM Knights, their runner-up finish in Class 2A, Area 9 punched their ticket to the north super regionals.

After defeating Cornerstone in both of their regular season meetings, first in a five-set war and then in a dominant sweep, Vincent’s area tournament meeting leaned more towards the latter in a commanding victory.

The Jackets got off to a big start in the opening set and used that big lead to secure the win down the stretch.

Vincent earned a 25-10 win in the first set, and the 15-point win put the team up 1-0 in the match.

From there, the Eagles responded by drawing within striking distance in the second set. Only a few points separated the teams in the last moments of the set, but the Jackets held on for a 25-21 win to put themselves one set win away from super regionals.

Vincent had no trouble in the third set, using the momentum from the first two sets to pull away for the match win.

The Jackets took a commanding 25-12 victory in the third set to seal the sweep and advance to the next stage of the playoffs.

Vincent would go on to face Westminster OM for the championship, but the Knights would go on to get the victory in the finals.

Westminster OM took the first set by a score of 25-13 and continued to remain on top from there, earning a 25-11 victory in the second set and a 25-9 win in the third set to sweep the match.

The Jackets will face the Pisgah Eagles on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 11:30 a.m. at the Finley Center in Hoover as part of the north super regionals. Vincent needs two wins on Thursday to reach the state tournament.
