Shelby County Sheriff’s Office announces promotions

COLUMBIANA – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office announced new promotions for four of its deputies for their high level of commitment to the community.
On Monday, Oct. 14, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office announced the promotions of Russell Bedsole, Nathan Kendrick, Debbie Sumrall and Chris Register. According to the SCSO, these deputies have all demonstrated a high level of commitment to their profession and to the Shelby County community.
“These professionals have served our community faithfully, and I have absolute confidence in their abilities to lead our agency for years to come,” Sheriff John Samaniego said.
According to the sheriff’s office, the deputies have served with distinction in several roles, including patrol investigations, administration and corrections.
“These are some of the most professional law enforcement officers in the industry,” Chief Deputy Clay Hammac said. “I have worked side-by-side with each of them for many years, and I know that our community and our agency will benefit for generations to come because of their leadership. I look forward to what the future holds for this agency.”
Bedsole was promoted from captain to the rank of major and is now assigned as the commander of operations for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. Bedsole has 26 years of law enforcement service.
Kendrick was promoted from lieutenant to the rank of captain and is now assigned as commander of the patrol division. Kendrick has 19 years of law enforcement service.
Sumrall was promoted from sergeant to the rank of lieutenant and is now assigned to the administrative division. Sumrall has served for 23 years.
Register was promoted from deputy to the rank of sergeant and is now assigned to the patrol division. Register has 16 years of law enforcement service.
