EUFAULA – After having two straight bye weeks, the Cornerstone Christian Chargers had minimal rust as they cruised to victory to remain undefeated.

Cornerstone defeated the Lakeside Chiefs 58-21 on the road on Oct. 11 to improve to 7-0 on the season.

The Chargers lived up to their own lofty offensive standards, outpacing their average of 50.7 points per game by dropping 58 points on the Chiefs thanks to 501 yards of total offense.

That offset a season-high in points given up despite the defense securing four interceptions and helped Cornerstone claim a commanding 37-point victory in their first of three straight road games to close the season.

Quarterback Zeke Adams did it all for the Chargers offense, going 8-for-12 passing with 234 yards and a touchdown and rushed 16 times for 210 yards, five touchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions.

Noah Schober was Adams’ top receiver with four catches for 125 yards. Cohen Hewitt caught a pair of passes for 33 yards and a touchdown, and Hampton Etheredge finished with a 57-yard catch on his lone reception. Drake Dunning also rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown off 10 carries.

Over on the defensive side, Schober nearly caught as many passes on defense as he did on offense, earning three interceptions on the night. He returned one of those 75 yards for a pick-six, adding a defensive touchdown to his offensive touchdown.

Adams had the other interception to give his team four picks for the game.

Dunning led the team in tackles with 14. Malachi Adams and Etheredge secured eight tackles apiece and Zeke Adams and Schober had six apiece.

Cornerstone will be back in action on the road at Evangel-Montgomery on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at Evangel Christian Academy.
