The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, along with Claudia and John Porter, owners of the Firehouse Subs restaurant in Birmingham, presented the Cahaba Valley Fired Department with tools Sept. 25 to aid them in rescue missions.

The department received cribbing blocks, a Res-Q-Jack and a TurboDraft Fire Educator. These tools are essential for emergency situations were victims must be cut out of a vehicle.

“We appreciate the tremendous support our restaurant has received from the residents of Birmingham for our business, as well as the Public Safety Foundation,” said Claudia and John Porter. “The (tools) for the fire department provide us with the privileged opportunity to show our gratitude by supporting our local fire department, which will in turn, help save lives and protect the community.”

Firehouse restaurants sell five-gallon buckets that their pickles come in for $2. The money from these sales, as well as donations collected in canisters located on store counters, benefit the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

During October, the restaurants participate in a program known as the Fire Safety Campaign. Each customer will receive a card with fire safety tips. Customers can also donate $1 or $5 to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The first 30 customers donating $5 will also receive a magnetic, dry erase board for emergency phone numbers.
