TUSCALOOSA – The Helena Huskies took their second tournament title of the season thanks to another dominant showing at the Northridge HS Invitational.

Helena went 4-0 on Saturday, Sept. 14 with wins over the Brookwood Panthers, University Charter Trail Blazers, Curry Yellow Jackets and Northridge Jaguars to claim the trophy.

Of those four wins, three of them came in just two sets as the Huskies rolled to the championship.

Helena started the day with a big showing against the Brookwood Panthers.

The Huskies took a large lead and never looked back, pulling away to win 25-9 and take control of the match.

That victory set up another convincing win in the second set as Helena took the set 25-14 to seal the sweep.

The Huskies then faced University Charter, and they faced a stiffer test from the Trail Blazers.

With only a handful of points separating the teams, Helena held on for the first set win by claiming a 25-21 victory.

The close nature of the match was only further highlighted in the second set when the score line flipped University Charter’s way.

The Trail Blazers took the 25-23 win in the second set to hold off the Huskies’ hopes of a sweep and extend the match to a third set.

The third set was the tightest of all as both teams fought to take a crucial match in the tournament.

After Helena and University Charter were tied 14-14, they traded points to remain in a tie. From there, the Huskies dealt the final blow and won back-to-back points to seal the 17-15 win.

With all of the momentum from a tightly contested and hard-fought victory behind them, Helena rode a strong start to another sweep over Curry.

The Huskies went on a run and saw out the first-set victory from there. The final score of 25-12 put them in front going into the second set.

From there, Helena continued to control the match and grabbed the win in the second set, this time by a score of 25-16.

That left only one team in the Huskies’ way: the host Northridge.

The final match proved to be one of the closest matches of the entire tournament, but for the fourth straight match, Helena went on top early and won the first set.

The 25-21 victory put the Huskies on the right foot, and with just one more set win needed to take the tournament, they didn’t let the opportunity pass them by.

Helena stayed strong in face of a challenge from the Jags and took the second set 25-22 to seal the championship win.

Across the four matches in the tournament, Addison Dockery secured 75 kills, 15 digs and six aces. Setter Kylie Scoles had 76 assists, four aces and eight digs, and Lauren Sively earned 22 kills and seven total blocks.

Helena will now have a big rivalry game on its hands as they will face Pelham on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. in area play.
