PELHAM – Following an announcement earlier on Monday morning that the upcoming Oct. 15 Post Malone concert would be the “last show here at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre” with a heart emoji, Live Nation has issued a correction.

Late on Monday, the entertainment giant had their original post updated to include it would be the last concert of the 2024 season, while Live Nation officials have left the future open-ended after being asked for comment in their clarification, giving no signs of future bookings in any comments to the Shelby County Reporter.

Early in the morning, Oak Mountain Amphitheatre’s official Facebook page teased Post Malone’s upcoming performance, marking it as the “last show here” with Live Nation.

A staple in Shelby County for 38 years, the amphitheatre is owned and operated by Live Nation and accommodates up to 10,300 guests at its 21,100 square-foot venue which first opened in 1986. The space was formerly known as the Verizon Wireless Music Center.

The news on Monday comes after questions were raised regarding the facility’s future following the start of construction on the 9,380-seat Birmingham Amphitheater, which is tentatively set to open in June 2025, where Live Nation would move bookings.

County and Pelham officials, however, hope to continue the partnership to include bookings at both amphitheatres in the future.

During their city council meeting on Monday, Pelham City Manager Gretchen DiFante said they are uncertain of the future but are committed to continuing a working relationship with Live Nation and making sure the space is beneficial to Pelham citizens.

“We don’t know what is going to happen,” DiFante said. “We don’t know if we will be hosting concerts next season or not. What we do know is that we will continue to be a positive partner with Live Nation as long as they are providing great entertainment in the city of Pelham. If the time comes for them to be doing something else, we are certainly going to work with them diligently to ensure that the property is still beneficial to the city of Pelham.”

The Birmingham Amphitheater is the result of a $50 million agreement between Live Nation and the BJCC Board of Directors that was announced on Sept. 13, 2023 to build a new amphitheater in downtown Birmingham. The board also entered into an operating agreement with Live Nation to book the concerts to perform in the venue, which is expected to host around 20 shows the season after opening.

During a meeting in May 2024, a $46 million general construction contract was awarded to Stone Building Company for the creation of the facility. The new amphitheater will be located in the Druid Hills neighborhood near the site of the former Carraway hospital which closed in 2008.

It remains unclear as to what will happen to the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre facility after Live Nation transfers its concert offerings to the new venue in Birmingham in summer 2025.

The last show of this year at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre will feature Post Malone alongside The Fools for You and Muscadine Bloodline on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. as part of the F-1 Trillion Tour, and the setlist will feature a collection of country songs.

Live Nation will continue to be followed up with relating to clarification and future changes.
