BIRMINGHAM – Anquon Fegans has made his decision on where he will play college football, and he’s staying close to home to play in the SEC.

The Thompson safety announced he is committed to the Auburn Tigers on Monday, July 29 at a ceremony at Avenue D Events in downtown Birmingham.

“It feels great,” Fegans said of making his choice. “This is a decision I’ve been thinking about for a while and just realizing what I can do to build this class and help it be special.”

Fegans chose Auburn over Clemson, LSU and Georgia after he announced his final four schools earlier in the summer. He had previously committed to USC before decommitting from the Trojans in 2023.

He said that he decided on Auburn about a month ago and is excited for his potential within coach Hugh Freeze’s system.

“Really, it was just the place,” Fegans said. “Auburn’s special. What coach Freeze is going to bring to the Plains, it’s going to be very special, and it’s my job to take it and make it to be as special as it can be.“

His commitment comes after a whirlwind recruitment journey that saw him rise to the ranks of the top prospects in the country.

The four-star Fegans is the third-ranked safety in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, in addition to the 44th-ranked prospect in the Class of 2025.

In 2023, Fegans was named a finalist for Class 7A Back of the Year for the second straight season after he had one of the best interception totals in the county, living up to his preseason hype as a MaxPreps Preseason All-American Second Team selection.

Those stats were also good enough for him to secure a MaxPreps All-American spot for the second straight season, earning a place on the 2023 Junior All-American First Team after placing on the Sophomore All-American First Team in 2022.

In addition, Fegans has earned All-State First Team and All-County First Team honors in the each of the past two seasons. He was also a finalist for Shelby County Football Player of the Year in 2023 and a member of the 2023-24 Shelby County All-Sports Team.

Fegans will join two of his brothers as active college football players, including his former high school teammate Tre’Quon, who transferred to UCF in the Big 12 after stints at Alabama and USC, and Antwon Fegans Jr., who he now joins at Auburn after his older brother committed there on May 15.

“It’s very special because not many kids get that opportunity to say that they played with their brother in college,” Fegans said of the chance to play with Antwon Jr. in college.

Fegans is the second Thompson player to commit to Auburn in the past two days after Warriors punter and kicker John Alan McGuire announced his intention to play for the Tigers on Sunday, July 28. His former teammate Kaleb Harris also plays at Auburn.

He said that Harris pushed hard to get him to Auburn, and he is glad to come in and have teammates that he is already close to.

“It’s great because we all get to bond on the team again so then it won’t feel like we have to start over,” Fegans said.

Ahead of Fegans’ commitment, 247Sports had Auburn ranked No. 7 in the Class of 2025 recruitment rankings with 20 hard commitments from the rising senior class, including 10 four-stars and one five-star, Opelika DL Malik Autry.

It’s a busy week for Thompson players making their college decisions as defensive end Jared Smith will announce his commitment on Saturday, Aug. 3. Smith is deciding between Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina and USC.

But now, Fegans will turn his attention to the 2024 season as he seeks to claim another state championship with the Warriors as a key part of their secondary.
