ACS Superintendent Vickers named as next SSA president

ALABASTER – Alabaster City Schools Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers has been appointed as the next president of the School Superintendents of Alabama.

The news of Vickers upcoming presidency was revealed during the SSA’s annual summer conference. On Wednesday, June 19, outgoing SSA President Dr. Heath Grimes passed down the gavel to Vickers.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to be selected by my colleagues across the state,” Vickers said. “SSA (is) an outstanding organization that has always been student-focused. I look forward to collaborating with my fellow superintendents as I take on this new role.”

The School Superintendents of Alabama is a professional organization that serves superintendents across the state.

With more than three decades of education experience, Vickers assumes leadership at SSA after serving in other capacities on the SSA Board of Directors. During his tenure as SSA President, Vickers plans to focus on education advocacy and advancing initiatives to benefit public education across Alabama.

“SSA has become a leading voice for children in our state; active in legislative work at the State House and involved in development of the K-12 education budget; has implemented an effective Executive Coaching and Training Institute for new superintendents; provides effective staff development programs at a summer, fall and legislative conference and implemented a business member partnership that provides funding for the SSA lobbying efforts,” read an post on the SSA’s official website.”
