Some of the best golfers and tennis players from around Shelby County will represent the area this summer at the annual North-South All-Star competition.

The golf rosters were announced on Monday, June 10, and a pair of golfers from the U.S. 280 area earned spots on the North All-Star team.

In the girls competition, Carmen Britt of Spain Park will represent the Jaguars as part of the 10-athlete field for the North All-Stars.

Britt had a strong season for the Jags with multiple sub-80 rounds as a key part of a Spain Park team that saw two individual qualifiers for sub-state and one for the state championship.

Over on the boys side, Sam Burns of Briarwood Christian will hit the course as a member of the North All-Stars in hopes of showing the skill that led to much success this season.

Burns took home the individual sectional title at the Class 6A, Section 2 championship at Tuscaloosa’s Ol’ Colony Golf Course. He shot a 72 to propel his team to a second-place finish and a spot at sub-state.

From there, Burns qualified for the Class 6A state championship as an individual qualifier. He finished in a tie for 14th with a 25-hole score of 5-over-par.

Spain Park’s Keat Litton will serve as an administrative member of both the boys and girls North All-Star coaching staffs after the Jags secured the Class 7A boys golf state championship.

As for the tennis All-Stars, the county will also have two representatives in the annual competition as players from Indian Springs and Westminster at Oak Mountain were included in the rosters when they were announced in May.

Sohana Caplash will look to cap off her strong season with Indian Springs as a member of the North All-Stars in the girls competition.

Caplash finished runner-up in the Class 1A-3A No. 1 singles competition, holding her own against some of the best tennis players in those classifications.

As for the boys, Palmer Hicks will represent Westminster at Oak Mountain on the North All-Stars after the Knights junior found success during the 2024 season.

The rosters were selected by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association and comprise the best rising seniors from around the state of Alabama.

The North-South golf and tennis competitions will be played as part of the AHSAA’s annual North-South All-Star Week from July 15-19 in Montgomery.
