The ASWA officially recognized the best players in the state of Alabama with the release of the All-State softball teams on Thursday, June 6, and as usual, Shelby County’s top stars received big honors.

In all, 18 players from Spain Park, Thompson, Oak Mountain, Helena, Calera, Briarwood Christian and Shelby County earned a spot on the First Team, Second Team or Honorable Mentions list for their respective classification.

The media also gave out multiple awards for each classification, and Helena’s Presley Lively added another award to her lengthy resume with the Class 6A Hitter of the Year award.

Lively, who also recently won Shelby County Hitter of the Year for the second straight season, had a county-high .550 average and .620 on-base percentage thanks to her 82 hits. She also earned an outfielder spot on the Class 6A All-State First Team.

Both Spain Park’s Maggie Daniel and Thompson’s Dailynn Motes earned Class 7A All-State First Team spots to close out their respective careers.

Daniel represented the Jags as a catcher thanks to her county-high 14 home runs along with a .443 batting average and .972 slugging percentage.

Motes earned an infielder spot after hitting .475 in her final season with the Warriors, including 12 home runs, 75 hits and a county-high 68 RBI for an All-County First Team spot.

Three area athletes earned spots on the Class 7A All-State Second Team as Thompson’s Aubree Hooks and Keara Hall and Oak Mountain’s Emma Hawkins were selected.

Hooks’ honor came after she was named Shelby County Pitcher of the Year for ending 2024 with a 1.28 ERA and 145 strikeouts.

Hall earned an outfielder spot thanks to her .409 average, 1.157 OPS, 56 hits and 35 RBI in her senior season for Thompson and was also on the All-County First Team.

Hawkins had a great year in both the field and at the plate to secure a First Team outfielder spot, including a .405 average off 49 hits and a perfect fielding percentage on defense.

Honorable Mentions from Class 7A included Chelsea’s Sydney Carroll, Spain Park’s Charlee Bennett and Thompson’s Kadyn Bush, Kelsey Burden and Olivia Tindell.

Bush was an All-County First Team selection thanks to a 1.65 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and average of 8.9 strikeouts per seven innings as a sophomore.

Burden finished the year with a .467 batting average off 63 hits and 35 stolen bases as the eighth grader also earned a spot on the All-County First Team.

Tindell received All-County Second Team honors for her .385 average, .494 on-base percentage and 1.002 OPS and will also represent the Warriors at the North-South All-Star Game.

Carroll was also selected for the North-South All-Star Game and earned an All-County First Team spot after she launched 11 of her 25 hits for home runs, giving her an Honorable Mention as a designated hitter on the All-State team.

Bennett also got a designated hitter Honorable Mention after she closed the 2024 season for Spain Park with 19 extra base hits in 35 total hits and a 1.301 OPS. She also earned places on the North All-Star Team and All-County First Team.

Hayden Traywick of Helena received Class 6A All-State Second Team honors thanks to her 15-3 record, 78 strikeouts and All-County Second Team selection as she allowed just 22 earned runs all season long.

Five different area players received Honorable Mentions in Class 6A, including Calera’s Kate Townley and Whitney Holtzapfel, Helena’s Emma Olive and Hannah Steele and Briarwood’s Meredith Kellum.

Townley was an All-County First Team selection after she led the county with 165 strikeouts across 171 innings for a 2.05 ERA and 1.04 WHIP.

Holtzapfel was one of the top hitters in Shelby County as just a freshman thanks to her .503 batting average, 75 hits and 59 runs on the road to All-County First Team honors.

Olive earned an infielder nod after finishing the year with 52 RBI, nine home runs, .338 average and 1.077 OPS while also securing an All-County First Team spot.

Steele secured an Honorable Mention with her versatile skillset that showed in her .388 average, perfect 13-for-13 stolen base rate and .985 fielding percentage. She also earned a spot on the All-County Second Team.

Kellum earned a utility Honorable Mention for her work as both a catcher and first baseman for the Lions, earning a 1.106 slugging percentage and 1.646 OPS, both county highs, and a .485 average en route to an All-County First Team spot.

Caitlan Bland represented Shelby County on the Class 5A All-State Honorable Mentions list as a designated hitter. She finished her sophomore year with 12 home runs in 23 appearances, a .446 batting average, 1.068 slugging percentage, 1.636 OPS and All-County First Team honors.
