HELENA – Involving readers of all ages is something Helena Public Library focuses on while planning their summer reading program. This year’s theme, Adventure Begins at Your Library, engages all through each read.
Registration for this year’s program begins on Monday, June 3. When a registration bag is picked up, participants receive a book log to keep track of each book they read throughout the summer.
“The theme can be applied to many ages, as books are packed with all kinds of exciting adventures,” Library Director Dan Dearing said. “Our hope is to inspire patrons of all ages to develop love of reading.”
Dearing’s main goal with this year’s program is to help students stay sharp over the summer while schools are out for summer break.
To encourage students to keep reading, the library is offering prizes for the cumulative number of books read over time. Once the personal book log is filled out, participants can bring their logs to the library where they can receive their prizes.
Aside from the summer reading program, Helena Public Library offers a number of free programs throughout the season.
“A large part of library summer activities also includes exciting programs,” Dearing said. “Some examples include story time, crafts, Board Game Fun, teen programs and weekly featured guests.”
Some of these special guests include the McWane Science Center and the city’s police and fire departments.
Dearing hopes that these programs will draw people into the library to participate in community-wide events.
“We want people to takeaway that the library is a vibrant part of the Helena community,” Dearing said. “We want everyone to find new and exciting books to read and know that the adventure begins at your library.”
