PELHAM – The Pelham Beautification, Entertainment and Arts Team, BEAT, have announced plans to present another entry in its series of dinner theatre productions scheduled for Friday, May 10 at the Pelham Civic Complex.

With doors set to open at 6 p.m., BEAT is once again cooperating with South City Theatre to produce “Love, Loss and What I Wore,” based on the book of the same name by Ilen Beckerman. With directorial guidance by South City Theatre Board Member Sue Ellen Gerrells, the production is themed around, and promises to blend nicely with, the celebration of Mother’s Day weekend.

“The production of ‘Love, Loss and What I Wore’ was selected, in part, because the production will be during Mother’s Day weekend,” said Trey Woodrow, president of the Pelham BEAT. “The show features a series of stories told by a group of women describing their relationships and life events using their wardrobe choices as a means of tying the tales together.”

Since its opening off-Broadway, “Love, Loss and What I Wore” has been produced in eight countries across six continents and has featured major actresses such as Jane Lynch, Rita Wilson, Kristin Wiig and Rosie O’Donnell over its numerous runs.

The South City Theatre, an acting troupe and performing arts theatre located in Pelham, has been a frequent partner with the BEAT in producing their shows and providing and locating directors and performers.

As announced, the May 10 production will feature veteran local actresses in the cast such as Lisa Ponder, Lori Mercer Edwards, Dianne Rowe, Donna Williamson, Robin Rushing, Kristy Means and Jennifer Spiegelman. Michelle Vercher will also serve as the lead stage manager for the production.

“It promises to be an evening of laughs, maybe some tears but definitely a lot of fun and fashion,” Woodrow said.

Since its formation in April of 2021, the BEAT has worked with city officials, the Pelham Parks and Recreation Department, Pelham Strong and other like-minded organizations toward the efforts of highlighting, promoting and sponsoring events occurring within Pelham.

In that mission, dinner theatres have since evolved to become one of the organization’s signature events, with two performances having been held last year and two planned for this year.

“Ideally, these will be recurring events in May and October each year as we work with the Pelham Civic Complex and VenuWorks around hockey season,” Woodrow said. “The spring shows will have varying themes and the fall shows will generally have a spooky vibe such as an interactive murder mystery. All of the shows are enriched by featuring the amazing talents of the chefs at the Pelham Civic Complex.”
