The Montevallo Bulldogs hit the road on back-to-back nights on April 3-4 in hopes of claiming another pair of area wins and remaining hot as they sit at No. 4 in the Class 4A boys soccer coaches poll.

In the end, they did just that, claiming a 1-0 win over the American Christian Patriots on Wednesday before beating the Sipsey Valley Bears 10-0 on Thursday.

Montevallo entered the week of area matchups on a three-game win streak behind victories over Tarrant, Helena and Chilton County.

The Bulldogs had also won 12 of their last 13 matches, but crucially, they sat at 4-0 in area play and looked to improve on that undefeated form.

In its first game of the week against ACA, Montevallo couldn’t find the back of the net in the first 40 minutes, but its defense helped keep the Patriots from scoring and preserved a 0-0 score line going into halftime.

After the break, the Bulldogs made their move for the win.

They scored a second half goal to take the lead over ACA, and that proved to be the only score between the two teams.

Montevallo kept a clean sheet as the Patriots never scored, leading to the 1-0 win on the road.

The next night, the Bulldogs hit the road once again, this time to Buhl to take on Sipsey Valley.

Montevallo came out firing on all cylinders on both ends of the field. The Bulldogs offense fired six goals past the Bears to take a commanding early lead.

On the other side of the field, Montevallo preserved the shutout to go to the halftime locker room with a 6-0 lead.

The Bulldogs finished off the win in the second half as they kept Sipsey Valley from scoring once again and scored the remaining four goals needed to trigger the mercy rule and win 10-0.

The victory was the second straight clean sheet for Montevallo and the seventh of the season. It also now holds a +23-goal differential against area opponents.

The Bulldogs have two area games remaining and will face Northside at home on Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. in hopes of taking the season series.
