ALABASTER – The Thompson Warriors continued to establish themselves as one of the top teams in the state with wins over the Lawrence County Red Devils on Saturday, March 2 and the Calera Eagles on Monday, March 4 at Thompson High School.

The wins took the Warriors to a 15-1 record and extended their win streak to 13 games in a row.

With their weekend tournament cancelled due to weather, Thompson hosted Lawrence County and cruised to a 7-1 win in five innings.

After a perfect first two innings in the circle, Aubree Hooks hit a solo home run to center on the first pitch of the inning to put the Warriors on the scoreboard.

In the bottom of the third with Kelsey Burden on third thanks to a single and sacrifice bunt, Dailynn Motes brought her home with an RBI double to extend the lead.

On the next batter, Kadyn Bush hit a two-run home run to drive home Motes and make the lead 4-0 after three innings.

While the fourth inning came and went without a run, Lawrence County hit a one-out solo home run to cut the deficit to three.

Thompson retook a four-run lead in the bottom of the fifth after a leadoff double by Josie Hamm led to an RBI single by Laney Williams.

An Olivia Tindell walk gave the Warriors a pair of baserunners once again, and Morgan Adolphus and Alexandra Bauer finished off the six-run win with back-to-back RBI singles.

Hooks earned the win thanks to her two perfect innings. Autumn Ingle took four strikeouts across two innings of one-hit softball and Kayla Haney took home the save.

Two days later, Thompson had a chance to sweep the season series against Calera after winning 9-1 on the road on Thursday, Feb. 29.

The Warriors started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single by Burden with two on and two out and never looked back.

In the bottom of the third inning, Bush hit a solo home run to double the lead and kicked off a massive seven-run inning.

Hannah Hobbs capitalized on a Tindell single to hit an RBI single, and Tindell scored on the next at-bat thanks to a passed ball. Calera surrendered another walk on the next batter to load the bases, and Keara Hall hit a grand slam right after to extend the lead to 8-0.

That wasn’t the last home run of the game as Neely Davis hit a solo home run to kick off the bottom of the third inning, making her team’s lead nine runs.

The Warriors needed just one more run to finish out the win, and they got it by capitalizing on miscues by the Eagles.

After Motes singled, she reached third base on an error. During Bush’s ensuing at-bat, Calera’s pickoff attempt went awry and Motes crossed home plate to trigger the run rule and earn the 10-0 win.

Hooks earned the win with four shutout innings. She took two strikeouts against two hits and no walks. Ingle sealed the victory with the save thanks to three strikeouts in one hitless inning against just one walk.

Thompson will return to action with a road game at the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies on Wednesday, March 6 at 4:30 p.m.
