HELENA – With their former players in attendance for Alumni Night, the Helena Huskies put on a show in a 6-0 victory over the Calera Eagles on Thursday, Feb. 29 at Helena High School.
Half of those goals came off the foot of sophomore Baileigh Rumage, who had a phenomenal night on offense with a hat trick in the victory.
13 minutes in, Rumage kicked off the scoring for the Huskies with the first goal of the night to put the hosts up 1-0.
Just a few minutes later, the other half of Helena’s sophomore front line duo Kate Hendrix got in on the action with a goal in the 17th minute to increase the lead to two.
The Huskies then scored their third goal in a 10-minute span as Ashlynn Beery scored to put Helena in front 3-0 after 20 minutes of play.
From there, the scoring pace was quieter from the Huskies, but they scored the final goal of the half behind a deep shot from Rumage in the 34th minute to make the halftime score 4-0.
Helena continued to control the pace in the second half and added to its lead before the end of the match.
16 minutes into the second half, the Huskies sent a pass to Henley Havens, who scored the fifth goal of the night in the 56th minute.
Rumage then got a golden opportunity to finish off the hat trick after a ball went off the goal in the 61st minute, and she capitalized to score her third goal of the night.
That put the finishing touches on the 6-0 victory for Helena at home in a county battle.
Ava Garner earned a pair of assists on the evening and Beery and Kendall Payton each earned an assist apiece.
Miah Rosener led the Huskies in shots with seven, five of which were on goal. Rumage had six shots and Hendrix had five shots, and all of the shots from the duo were on target.
Addyson Cook turned in the clean sheet with five saves in 60 minutes. Adyson Shelton also had two saves in 20 minutes of action.
Helena will return to action on Tuesday, March 5 as it travels to Wetumpka for a 5:30 p.m. match.
After the Warrior Invitational in Alabaster, Calera will face Indian Springs on the road on Tuesday, March 5 at 5 p.m.
