Spain Park High School rising senior Mikey White advanced to the next round of qualifying for the USA Baseball 18-and-under National team trials during the holiday weekend in Cary, N.C. after playing in the first-ever Prospect Classic.
Following USA Baseball’s Tournament of Stars, White played in a series of intra-squad games before participating in a two-game series against the Collegiate National team, which is made up of some of the top college baseball players in the nation.
White’s best performance came in an intra-squad game June 29, where he finished 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored as the leadoff hitter for the Blue team.
White batted .375 with a double and scored two runs during the three intra-squad games, which helped him advance along with 27 other top high school baseball players around the country to the next qualifying round.
The final cut, which will trim the roster to 20 players, will be made after White participates in the second round trial Sept. 12-21 in Cary, N.C. The 18-and-under National team will then participate in the COPABE Pan American Championships Sept. 23-Oct. 2.
